interacting in Meaningful Ways: identify roots, Prefixes, and suffixes
Learning Target
• Use knowledge of morphology (e.g., affixes, roots, and base words), context, reference materials, and visual cues to determine the meaning of unknown and multiple-meaning words on familiar topics.
using Morphology
We can use morphology to help determine the meaning of unknown words in The Taming of the Shrew. By understanding root words, affixes (such as prefixes and suffixes), and base words, we can better understand the meaning of unknown and multiple-meaning words. In this activity, you will identify, analyze, and evaluate words using morphology.
Skim through The Taming of the Shrew to identify sentences or phrases with unfamiliar or multiple-meaning words that have root words, affixes, or base words. Write four examples in the chart. Then analyze each example to determine the meaning of the words. Refer to the Language Resources list to help you.
