After analyzing and evaluating formal and informal language in Marketing to Kids Gets More Savvy with New Technologies, you have formed an opinion about how formal language is effective in a news article. Choose one sentence from your chart. With a partner, write a short explanatory text about how formal language is better at conveying the idea than informal language. Before writing, read the model. Notice what information is in each of the four sentences. Try structuring your text in the same way.

Informal and formal language are two different ways to convey information. In the text “Marketing to Kids Gets More Savvy with New Technologies,” I talked to my partner
about the fact that there are now companies that target kids by putting video ads on their websites. I can rewrite this idea in more formal language to say, “According to Elizabeth Sweet, companies today are using video advertising on websites which target children. Formal academic language is more effective because it better conveys the information and the vocabulary is more precise.”
