Creating an Illustrated myth
EmbEddEd AssEssmEnt
Step 1: Introduction
In this unit, you read the myth “Arachne,” which tries to explain something that happens naturally, how spiders came to be, through the actions of the goddess Athene and others. Now you will write your own illustrated myth, using the skills you have learned in this unit about how to write interesting stories.
Narrative Writing Prompt
You will write an illustrated myth that explains a natural phenomenon through the actions of gods or heroes. Be sure to:
• Use the elements of plot structure, including an exposition, rising action, climax, falling action, and a resolution.
• Add adverbs and adverb phrases to enhance the descriptions in your myth.
• Use sensory and figurative language to vividly tell your story.
• Include details about the characters’ responses to the event, including their thoughts and feelings.
• Use a variety of sentences to improve the flow of your writing and to connect ideas.
• Find or create three visuals to illustrate key parts of your myth.
• End your story by clearly detailing the lesson learned.
Step 2: Brainstorming
Now you are ready to start thinking about what you will write about. Work in small groups or with a partner to brainstorm ideas using the graphic organizer below.
