• Use prepositional phrases to vary sentence patterns for meaning, reader/listener interest, and style.
A phrase is a word group that does NOT have both a subject and a verb and that functions as a part of speech, such as a noun or modifier (adjective or adverb). There are many kinds of phrases. One common kind of phrase is the prepositional phrase. You can use prepositional phrases to vary sentence patterns and add interesting detail.
Prepositional Phrases
A preposition is a word that shows how two or more other words relate to one another. Many prepositions show relationships involving time or location.
