The author uses the image of Cyclops vomiting “wine and pieces of human flesh” to portray Cyclops as a disgusting monster. This image reminds the reader how violent Cyclops is and what danger Odysseus is in. The image supports the Hero’s Journey archetype by showing the terrible trials and the hero’s bravery. In my opinion, this imagery is definitely effective because it makes the reader understand how brave the hero must be to face a man-eating monster.
