Write an Oral Presentation
After analyzing the use of dialogue in The Boy in the Striped Pajamas, you have enough information to prepare a brief oral presentation. Choose one line of dialogue from your chart. In your presentation, explain what the dialogue reveals about the character and the theme. State your opinion of how effective the dialogue is, and give a reason why. Before writing, read the model oral presentation provided. Notice what information is in each of the four sentences. Try structuring your presentation in the same way.
MODEL: ORAL PRESENTATiON
When Shmuel says, “You’re on the wrong side of the fence though,” he seems to understand how different his world is from Bruno’s. This line of dialogue also emphasizes the theme that the boys are not just on opposite sides of the fence but are on opposite sides of life. The dialogue is effective because it shows us something about Shmuel’s character while at the same time revealing theme.
