Write a short argument
After analyzing the imagery in the duke’s monologue, you have enough information to write a short argument. Choose the image of music or food from your chart. Write a short argument in which you explain the image. Before writing, read the model short argument provided. Notice what information is in each of the sentences. Try structuring your argument in the same way.

The speaker uses the image of the sea to talk about love. He says love “receiveth as the sea,” but then he says that everything “falls into abatement and low price” once in the sea. This means the sea destroys or reduces things, no matter what their “validity,” or value. This negative image shows that the duke sees love partly as a negative force.
