Write an explanation
After analyzing and evaluating the language in Long Walk to Freedom, you have enough information to write a paragraph about one of the examples of figurative language in the speech. Choose one example of figurative language used by Mandela and explain why it is effective. Before writing, read the model paragraph provided. Notice what information is in each of the sentences. Try structuring your paragraph the same way.
Will you please explain that?
ModEl: Explanation
When Mandela uses the figurative language, “hunger for freedom,” he is comparing the need for freedom to the need for food. This is a highly effective use of figurative language because it makes the reader or listener think about freedom as something that is necessary for life, just like food.
