my notes
Use your completed graphic organizers and brainstorming document to help you as you begin to draft your argumentative essay. Remember that your draft does not have to be perfect, but should include transitions and formal language.
Before you begin the draft of your argumentative essay, review the Scoring Guide and student exemplar with your partner so that you understand how your essay will be assessed. Ask your partner questions if you do not understand any or part of the Scoring Guide.
Be sure your draft has: • a strong, clear claim.
• supporting details and evidence from reliable sources. • a clear call to action.
• transitions to provide cohesion.
• precise and formal language to convey ideas.
• sentences that include adverbs to provide details. • vivid verbs and varied tenses.
Step 6: Editing and Revising
Exchange drafts with your partner. Then review the Scoring Guide again, and look at the Student Expository Text Exemplar which you will receive from your teacher. Read each other’s drafts. Use this checklist as you read your partner’s draft.
