compare and contrast
Part of analyzing and responding to what you read is comparing and contrasting characters, settings, and incidents in a story. In writing exposition in which you compare and contrast, you will use signal words and phrases that help the reader see what you are comparing and contrasting. Read the examples of compare and contrast signal words and phrases in the Language Resources box.
Skim through Walk Two Moons looking for examples of character details that you can compare and contrast. Write three examples in the chart. Then write a compound sentence that compares or contrasts the characters. Choose a word or phrase from the Language Resources list to make the comparison or contrast.
