adjectives and adjectival Phrases
Learning Target
• Explain how well the author uses language to develop the characters in a novel. Adjectives and Adjectival Phrases
Walk Two Moons is a novel written in the first-person point of view. The narrator is a character in the story, telling about her journey and encounters with other characters as she searches for her mother. The author uses descriptive words and phrases to reveal characters’ thoughts, feelings, and traits.
An adjective is a word that modifies a noun or pronoun. The sky is blue.
In this example, blue is the adjective that modifies the noun sky.
An adjectival phrase is a group of words that function as an adjective.
The book on the shelf is the one to read if you are working on the report. The adjectival phrases one the shelf and to read both modify the noun book.
