Write a short Description
After finding and analyzing examples of figurative language in “Eleven,” you can come up with new examples in your own writing. Write a fictional description of Rachel’s twelfth birthday celebration. Decide if it is better or worse than her eleventh birthday, and use figurative language to create that effect. Use a table to plan the figurative language in your description. In addition, refer to the model short description.

Rachel hurries home from school. Her legs feel light as air. She doesn’t want to be late for her birthday party. Rachel is turning twelve and it feels like the whole town is ready to cel- ebrate. When she finally reaches her house, it stands proud, welcoming her with open arms. Inside, her family stands in the kitchen, a cake like a beautifully wrapped present sitting on the kitchen table.
