Gary Soto uses sensory language in his poem “Oranges” to support the theme of young love. The line “Light in her eyes, a smile” appeals to the sense of sight. The line “I was making fire in my hands” appeals to the sense of touch. This sensory language reveals the narrator’s loving feelings toward a girl.
