Shakespeare was both an actor and dramatist. Though little is known about his life, his plays and poems give us some insight into the man he was, and they reveal that he was a keen observer of human nature. In many ways, his genius was to understand the human condition in all its forms. Shakespeare wrote his plays specifically for his company’s players, and this shows that he was passionate about his actors and his work.
