Collaborative Practice
Below is a photograph of Woody Guthrie taken in 1943 by the
photographer Al Aumuller entitled “Woody Guthrie, half-length portrait,
facing slightly left, holding guitar.” The guitar has a sticker attached
reading: This Machine Kills Fascists. (A fascist is a follower of fascism—a governmental system led by a dictator having complete power,
forcibly suppressing opposition and criticism, and emphasizing an aggressive nationalism and often racism.)
Examine the photograph closely by applying the OPTIC strategy described on page 10.
