Your assignment is to work with a partner to create an original myth that explains a belief, custom, or natural phenomenon through the actions of gods or heroes. Be sure that your myth teaches a lesson or a moral and includes illustrations that complement the myth as it unfolds.

Read and Research
Find mythology from a culture you are interested in learning more about
for your new Independent Reading text. As you read the myths, consider what you learn about the culture they come from. Consider what the myths tell you about what was important to the culture. For example, what roles do gods and goddesses play? How powerful are the human beings in the stories? What do the myths tell you about the beginning of the world? Write down your discoveries in your Independent Reading Log.
