• Language and Writer’s Craft instruction highlights the importance of diction and verbals in comedy.
• Students use the Pre-AP® RAFT and TWIST strategies to analyze author technique and humorous texts.
• Student tasks include participating in a Socratic Seminar; analyzing the purpose and effectiveness of satire, caricature, hyperbole, and word play; working collaboratively to understand the author’s choice of diction and syntax; and classifying humorous texts by levels of comedy.
• Leveled-Differentiated Instruction features provide support for English learners, including helpful graphic organizers.
• Support for close reading with standards-based text-dependent questions and scaffolds following each text.
