Sample Text
Dear Betty,
During Reading
2. The elements of an informal letter are • Date
• Salutation (Greeting) • Body
• Closing
• Signature
As you read the following sample informal letter with your class, mark each element with the appropriate label from the list above.
I miss you so much! I can’t believe it has been an entire summer since I last saw you. The last day of school was both exciting and sad for me. The carnival at school was tons of fun and I can’t believe that you actually hit the target that sent Mr. Smith into the dunk tank. Of course it was also sad because I knew it was my last day with my friends. I knew moving would be hard, but I didn’t know it would be that hard.
When I first got to my new neighborhood, I was scared. I didn’t know anyone and no one asked me to play! My mom and dad kept telling me it would get better and it did. Since then, I have made some great friends at my new school. My neighbor Abby is in my grade and she helped me find my classes and get off to a good start. My new school is twice as big and I get to choose some of my classes. Believe it or not, my favorite class is woodshop.
No matter how great my new school is or how many friends I make, no one will take your place as my best friend. I hope that everything is great and we get to see each other soon. Write me back soon!
