interact in Meaningful Ways: embedding Quotations
Learning Targets
• Analyze and explain how arguments are structured and evidence is presented. • Evaluate and explain how convincing a writer’s evidence is.
• Express and justify opinions by providing text evidence and using nuanced modal expressions and phrases.
citing evidence
When writing an argument, authors must weave evidence smoothly into
their argument by introducing and citing it. In this activity, you will identify transitions, lead-ins, and quotes (TLQC), and then practice weaving evidence into your own writing.
Read paragraphs 8–10 in the article looking for the elements of TLQC that the writer uses. Write the examples in the chart. The example provided has analyzed paragraphs 11–13.
