Write a summary
After analyzing and practicing the ways to condense ideas, you have enough information to write a summary of paragraph 2 of “The Nobel Peace Prize 1993, Biography of Nelson Mandela.” Write a short summary of the paragraph, using the skills you have learned to condense the information in the paragraph. Before writing, read the model summary of paragraph 1 provided. Notice how the ideas are condensed and try structuring your summary in the same way.
ModEl: SuMMary
Nelson Mandela was born in 1918, and his father was the chief of the Tembu Tribe. Mandela studied law until 1942 and then joined the African National Congress in 1944. Mandela was charged with treason for fighting against the government’s apartheid policies, but he was acquitted in 1961.
