Write a Short Explanation
Using the knowledge you have gained in analyzing the structure of the story “Thank You, M’am,” write a short explanation. Choose one of the stages of the story’s plot and explain how the author used words and phrases to develop that element. Use the model short explanation to help you plan your writing.
ModEl: SHort ExplAnAtion
In the exposition, the author Langston Hughes uses words and phrases to orient the reader to the characters and setting of the story. Hughes uses words such as “large woman” to introduce the characters in the book. He describes the time of night and that “she was walking alone” to tell about the setting of the story.
