Dear Ms. Johannsen:
I’m writing to inquire about your translation services and the possibility of a contract. As a professional filmmaker, I often need to hire translators to work on the translated subtitles of my films and materials. I understand that you offer an annual contract for services such as this in face-to-face interactions, and I was wondering whether you would be interested in contracting to help me on an ongoing basis.
Instructional films have been edited and produced by my company for training purposes in varied workplaces. The types of films we produce cover topics that
range from safety training to customer service instruction. Additionally, we are sometimes hired to produce informational films for use in educational settings, such as community colleges and trade schools. Often, the businesses and institutions that contract with us request that we provide subtitles for the films, sometimes in multiple languages. Sometimes, printed materials or handouts to accompany the films are also requested.
As you might imagine, this adds a layer to the level of expertise we are required to employ. These types of requests have become so frequent that it is in our best interests to contract with a professional translating company on a continual basis, so we are interested in hiring Lingua Services. We would send you the finished films in English, and you would provide the translated subtitles in other languages. The most common requests we receive are for Spanish, French, Vietnamese, and Mandarin. However, we have received occasional requests for a much wider variety of languages, including Dutch, Swahili, and Hindi.
We have selected Lingua Services because of your impeccable reputation and body of work. This contract would require your assurance that the subtitles and translations you provide are grammatically and culturally correct, and that you have taken every precaution to make sure this is true. In exchange, we are prepared to offer you a generous contract and continuous work. The work would begin as soon as you are prepared to start.
Please contact me at 555–131–2468 at your earliest convenience to discuss the possibility of our partnership. I look forward to taking your call.
Yours faithfully,
Andrea Philips
