the town are taking all I own!
54 rajah: But your own servant invited them!
55 narrator 4: . . . said the Rajah.
56 rajah: I heard him myself. Did you not give the order?
57 sushil: Never! If the order was given, I beg you to bring the one who gave it!
58 narrator 2: So the Rajah sent a messenger.
59 narrator3:SooncameSakka,stillpretendingtobeSushil,alongwithNirmala
and the children. The children stared wide-eyed at the two Sushils, and Nirmala nearly fainted.
60 sushil:Impostor!
61 sakka:Deceiver!
62 rajah: (bewildered, looking from one to the other) I cannot tell the difference
between you!
63 narrator 1: . . . said the Rajah. He turned to Nirmala.
64 rajah: Can you say which is the true Sushil?
65 narrator 4: Nirmala looked at both men.
66 nirmala: Your Majesty, may I ask them a question?
67 rajah:Certainly.
68 narrator 2: Nirmala turned to Sakka.
69 nirmala: Is it better to be generous to yourself, to your family, to your
servants, or to your neighbors?
70 sakka: It is best to be generous to all! When you are generous, others also grow generous, and everyone is wealthier.
71 narrator 3: Then Nirmala turned to Sushil.
72 nirmala: Is it better to be generous to yourself, to your family, to your
servants, or to your neighbors?
73 sushil: To none! It is a waste of wealth that can never be regained!
74 narrator 1: Nirmala took a deep breath. She gathered the children, then
drew close to Sakka.
75 nirmala: This is the true Sushil, Your Majesty.
76 sushil: But, Nirmala! My wife! My children!
77 narrator 4: At that, the god stepped forward. With a blinding flash of light,
he changed back to his own shape.
