Bats are some of the world's most interesting and amazing creatures. There are over 1105 different kinds of bats in the world! In North America alone, there are over 45 different kinds of bats.
They can be found in dead trees and caves. They also like to live underneath bridges. One bridge in a city in Texas has over one million bats living there. Some people put up special bat houses for the bats to live in.
Bats can eat many different kinds of things. In fact, a single bat can eat as many as 2000 to 6000 insects in one night. Things that bats find tasty include beetles, flies, mosquitoes, and gnats.
Many people are frightened of bats. But bats rarely bother people. In fact, bats help people in many ways. Bats help farmers by eating insects that destroy crops. They help carry seeds to other plants.
