3 Add levels of comedy to the Word Wall. As a class, share examples of low and high comedy, and be sure
to discuss the following: Levels of comedy are frequently studied as rungs on a comedy ladder. Within the major levels of low and high, there are other areas that students might hear about in the future. Also, it is important to point out that while individual segments of texts can be identified as either low or high comedy, humorous texts often contain features of both levels.
4 Check Your Understanding asks students to independently write their statement that shows they understand the main differences between the levels of comedy. Call on a variety of students to share with the class.
